practice-based research project

Research Project Description

Bordering participation and installation, my research project explores the fragility of time and nature - in practice.

IN BLOOM was the initial part of the project, researching the materiality of flowers and their life spans. I preserved flowers and planted new ones. I watched them gradually grow, and gradually die, their temporality evident. I saw the flowers bloom, then wondered what comes after the bloom? We begin again.

SOWING THE SEEDS FOR CHANGE is my project’s roots in performance. It is a one-to-one, site-specific piece – participants attend ten-minute slots in the ArtsTwo courtyard garden. I will be inviting them to plant seeds with me whilst we converse about nurture, growth, and the changes we wish to see within the world. The intention and desire of the individual is balanced with the communal – the flowerbed a site of variety, and of collective care.

FLEUR’S FLOWERBED is an online space to virtually access the installation, as the flowerbed becomes a legacy project rather than site of performance. The intimacy of one-to-one performance expands into the project’s wider community, accessible through a private Instagram page (@fleursflowerbed) designed to digitally track the flowers as they grow.  Participants in the performance will be invited to follow the journey over the summer.
